The Middle School Visual Arts Program are exploratory courses that will expand upon the base art knowledge students gained in their elementary art courses. Project-based learning is the teaching method used to offer students a variety of ways to exhibit personal artistic expression, to expand their creativity, and to engage in art appreciation.
The areas of study will include: The review of the purposeful use of the elements and principles of art, value scale study and application, creating depth with use of value, rendering 3-dimensionality on a 2-dimensional surface, exploration of combining new art media, self-portrait studies with facial proportion accuracy and the exploration of perspective with the integration of different viewpoints. It will also include the use of abstraction related to design creation, the exploration of color groups, and consideration of color as an expressive quality. Purposeful use of abstraction as quality, Purposeful use of color in compositions and 3-dimensional forms. The use of clay as a 3-dimensional form and the integration of mixed media techniques into final projects.
