Some Important News from JFK
Hello JFK Families –
An important note with helpful hints to assist your child in staying safe online.
- Have regular conversations about online safety, privacy, and potential risks. Help your child understand the importance of protecting personal information and reporting any suspicious or uncomfortable encounters. Having these conversations casually and often will help build trust that makes it more likely for kids to ask for help when they need it.
- Define clear guidelines for social media and device usage, including the platforms your child can join and appropriate behavior online. Encourage your child to have private accounts and teach your child how to manage their privacy settings.
- Build trust by involving your child in setting guidelines and discussing the reasons behind monitoring. Emphasize that your intention is to protect your child, rather than intruding upon their privacy.
-
It is just as important for parents to learn about online safety as it is for their child.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT SAFETY DURING MORNING DROP OFF:
If you are dropping your child off in the morning on the cafeteria side of JFK, you must stay in the right lane when dropping off your child. You may drop your child off anywhere on the sidewalk and they can enter through the cafeteria doors. We have observed several students crossing through traffic which is very dangerous.
Do not create a second lane. The lane to the left of the drop off lane is the passing lane.
I assure you, the lane moves quickly. Please be patient and wait in line for your child’s safety.

Today was a Flannel Friday for a Cause. ON FRIDAYS ONLY through March, JFK will sponsor Flannel Fridays for a Cause. For a $1 donation, students will be allowed to wear flannel pj bottoms (no onesies, pj sets, etc.) to school. Proceeds from Flannel Fridays for a Cause will support a schoolwide or community initiative. The Flannel Friday on January 23rd will benefit Kennedy Cares. Teachers will collect $1 from students who choose to wear flannel pj bottoms each Friday during homeroom. Homeroom reps will bring the collected money to the office.
Please remember that pj bottoms are NOT allowed to be worn on any day other than on Flannel Fridays for a Cause.

We’re inviting YOU to become a Kennedy Cares resource volunteer to help make a positive impact on a child or family in our own JFK community. Please contact the PTO (southingtonjfkpto@gmail.com) if you can assist.
